Future State Tournaments

Postby Keith SD Player Rep » Wed Aug 15, 2018 2:24 pm

The state is planning on making some changes to the state tourney format for next year. That being said we want input from the players. Our state commissioner Gary Young will be at the complex Saturday afternoon and I will be there both days. Find us we are willing to listen to ideas and suggestions. We will even listen to your complaints  . Let's work together in this to make things better!! Thanks

What are the changes that they are wanting to do? That way everyone knows what they are and have a chance to think about them a little before showing up to voice their opinion. Thx

Reversing the order, allowing teams to play in more than 1 tourney, getting more teams to play and getting them in correct divisions, possibly combining mens and womens tournaments some or all of these things may change next year. All ideas will be considered. The best thing people can do is come state spring meetings in Pierre and be heard.

Bringing back Rec 2 should be strongly considered, if done correctly I think we would see increased state tourney participation. It might not happen overnight either. You need to prove that you can place teams correctly before you see the full effect of it. Last time was it 2014-15....or just 2015? Not enough time to see if it worked.

Make it MANDATORY for the host facility to ensure there's sufficient grounds crew to groom the infields during play. Or pull the tourney from them.

Sheffie, most of those state run tourneys, state ASA stuff does drag fields every 2 games, provide umpires with water, official score keepers, all of the good stuff. The stuff you people are complaining about are things that are being done in privately run tournaments, ie, KOTH. Milo can jack around whoever he wants during the private stuff. The state stays out of it.

Any developments resulting out of discussions during the tournament weekend?

Sheffie we heard lots of ideas and suggestions and have been discussing them. The state executive council will have a round table discussion in October before the state HOF banquet. Any changes will be made in January at the state meetings. I encourage everyone to attend these meetings and express their ideas and help bring about changes.
